INTRODUCTION TO THE INTERNATIONAL GOODWILL AMBASSADOR CLUB (IGAC) AND THE ABUJA CHARITY MARATHON
The International Goodwill Ambassador Club (IGAC) is a global initiative founded by Dr. Chris Oko Odey, and is committed to promoting humanitarianism, philanthropy, and social impact. As a distinguished network of individuals and organizations, IGAC stands at the forefront of advocacy, service, and support for the underprivileged. Our mission is rooted in the principles of compassion, unity, and positive change, focusing on community-driven initiatives that uplift lives and create lasting societal transformation.
At IGAC, we believe in leveraging collective goodwill to address societal challenges, whether through direct interventions, strategic partnerships, or awareness campaigns. Our members include influential leaders, corporate bodies, NGOs, and individuals dedicated to fostering development in various sectors, including education, health, women empowerment, youth development, and poverty alleviation.
One of our key initiatives that exemplifies IGAC’s vision is the Abuja Charity Marathon, an event designed to blend fitness with philanthropy, engaging the community in a noble cause that transcends mere competition.
This remarkable initiative was founded by Dr. Chris Oko Odey, a visionary leader, humanitarian, and philanthropist dedicated to driving social change through impactful programs and community engagement. As the Founder and Convener of the Abuja Charity Marathon, Dr. Odey has worked tirelessly to establish this marathon as a premier event that unites people for a common cause—running for humanity.
The Abuja Charity Marathon: Running for Humanity
The Abuja Charity Marathon is an annual event that brings together athletes, professionals, humanitarian organizations, and fitness enthusiasts to champion charity, unity, and health. More than just a race, it is a movement dedicated to raising awareness and funds to support the less privileged, promote fitness, and encourage social responsibility.
This year’s marathon, scheduled for April 19, 2025, will feature over 500 runners and more than 1,000 attendees, including government officials, corporate executives, celebrities, philanthropists, and fun-loving individuals. The race will start at City Gate and finish at the Arts and Culture Pavilion, opposite Radio House near the International Conference Centre (ICC).
In addition to the marathon, this year’s event will feature a Mixed-Gender Novelty Football Match between Abuja Charity Marathon Ambassadors and the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abuja Chapter, fostering teamwork and engagement between athletes and media professionals. This friendly match underscores the importance of collaboration in driving social change.
The Significance of the Marathon
The Abuja Charity Marathon is more than a sporting event; it is a powerful tool for advocacy, fundraising, and community building. Through this platform, IGAC seeks to:
1. Support Charitable Causes: Proceeds from the event will be directed toward education, healthcare, and welfare programs for the underprivileged, ensuring tangible benefits for those in need.
2. Promote Health and Fitness: The marathon encourages a culture of wellness and physical activity, reinforcing the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
3. Unite Diverse Stakeholders: By bringing together individuals from various backgrounds, including government officials, business leaders, and community members, the event fosters a sense of unity and shared responsibility.
4. Amplify Humanitarian Efforts: Through extensive media coverage, the marathon raises awareness about critical social issues, inspiring more people to contribute to positive change.
Honoring Excellence and Commitment
As part of the marathon celebrations, IGAC is honored to recognize and decorate distinguished individuals as Abuja Charity Marathon Ambassadors. These ambassadors embody the spirit of service, resilience, and impact. Their contributions, whether in philanthropy, governance, or community service, serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for others.
This year, we are privileged to have His Royal Majesty, Igwe Samuel Asadu Ogadagidi, and Her Royal Majesty, Queen Mother Dr. Chetachi Ecton Nwoga as Special Guests of Honor. Their unwavering dedication to humanitarian efforts aligns perfectly with the mission of IGAC and the Abuja Charity Marathon.
